This is a job for a multi-skilled hands-on engineer looking for a fresh challenge who relishes taking responsibility for delivering a complete system from scratch. You will be applying novel techniques prototyped in university research labs to solve critical technical problems in the clean energy field within the areas of chemical process engineering, emissions control and CHP. You will design an industrial demonstrator, build and commission the system, then run evaluation tests. The work is therefore highly varied as are the required skills.

Requirements:

A solid engineering grounding and at least 5 years industrial design experience, as well as the thirst and ability to learn new skills, combined with a strong focus on quality and an attention to detail.

Degree qualified with a bias towards electronic engineering, chemical engineering, instrumentation/control systems or industrial process engineering.
Previous involvement in most aspects of the development life cycle, from initial analysis and design, to implementation, testing, documentation and transition to manufacture.

The ability to work closely with research partners to create experimental designs, specify and source components, manage subcontract and supplier deliverables, and assemble and commission complete systems.
A working knowledge of process control and instrumentation, and related electronics.

Experience in manufacturing activities, precision assembly, automated machine design, materials/ chemical engineering, or process systems.
To be mindful of IP generated as a result of process and equipment design.
The ability to design and carry out an experimental program, interpret and report results.

Should have CAD and process programming experience.

The ideal candidate will need to be able to work well under pressure and use their own initiative. They will like to get their hands dirty on the job, as well as step back and design the whole process. Creative, dynamic and driven by results, they will be enthusiastic in meeting targets while continuously striving to meet and exceed their own objectives. Self-motivated and enthusiastic, they will be able to work independently but with good communication skills to interact with other professional team members. The candidate will have an enquiring mind and strong desire to broaden their skills and knowledge.

This is an extremely hands-on job, with a broad remit and a high degree of autonomy.
