Longma Clean Energy, previously Longma BioFuels were the first commercial biofuels manufacturer in Herefordshire. We have been featured on BBC Worcester & Herefordshire, in the Hereford Times, and other local publications. Our work has received support from the Prograta Fund, The Carbon Trust, The Technology Innovation Centre, Herefordshire Council and most of all by the general public.

Longma Clean Energy was established in 2003 with the aim of helping the environment by developing a truly sustainable business. For sustainable development to become a reality the vast majority of business activity must be environmentally sustainable. It is also true that the only sustainable business is a profitable one. While these goals are often perceived as mutually exclusive, it is not necessarily so. However, there is clearly a huge gap to be bridged and we are proud to be a small part of the force for change both on the ground and in influencing environmental legislation.

Our unique business model is designed to make best environmental use of raw materials. Our raw product, used vegetable oil, is collected from within our local region from pubs, restaurants, schools and other catering businesses. The fuel and electricity we produce is then consumed locally. Our future plans are to make second generation biofuels from catering waste.

Apart from offering an efficient used oil collection service, by generating embedded renewable power we reduce the electricity Hereford must import, which saves on transmission losses and helps retain wealth locally. As a further benefit waste heat from our generation is used within our factory and used to heat neighboring industrial units.

Longma Clean Energy is currently focused on research and development as we believe that innovation and new technology is true solution to climate change challenge.
